Day 85

Good Morning

 

 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name,

 Refreshing water in the morning!
And during the day...
Ideal: 2 cups of warm water as soon as I wake up.
Sometimes I have tea.

Strategies For Success:
- Watch for all-or-nothing phrases that are not really true.
- Adhere to truthful all-or-nothing statements.
- Avoid negative thoughts patterns.

Appropriate All-or-nothing Thoughts:
- "If I drink just one more beer, my lifelong habit of binging, which caused my cirrhosis of the liver, will start all over again. It will change the person I am; I will lose my job, my family, and ultimately, my health. I am one drink away from death."
- "If I forget my space oxygen tank, I'll run out of air at the top of the mountain. I must not forget that tank."
- "If I give up my baby for adoption, she will have a much better home--but I'll never be a part of her life. I will either have all of the responsibility of raising her, or none."
- "If I swerve onto this exit, I may avoid that oncoming semi-struck. Otherwise, it will be the end for me."

Day 83 - Sabbath

Happy Sabbath!!!
 
 
For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Psalm 8:5-9

All-or-nothing Thinking Leads to:
- low self-control
- procrastination
- incomplete projects
- exaggeration
- suicidal thoughts
- discouragement
- pessimism
- frustration
 
 
 
 
Things Have to be "Perfect"
 
 
All-or nothing thinkers are also very often perfectionists. If they can't do something well, they'd rather not do it at all; if a situation doesn't go perfectly, they feel like an abject failure.
Even the goals that such thinkers set for themselves are measure in absolute terms.
 
Perfectionism is really a distortion of the challenge to "do your best" in the person who believes his or her best must always  mean perfect. The individual becomes fearful of making mistakes and may experience stress, anxiety disorders, and perfection as a result.

There is nothing wrong with pursuing perfection. We must be reasonable in our expectations, however. While we should always strive for, hope for, and desire the best, it is unrealistic to believe that we and everything we do will be met with smashing success.

Some people pride themselves on being all-or-nothing thinkers. To them, the very idea implies strength and certainty. The fact is, there are many levels of success in fife.

Bom Dia

Água refrescante pela manhã!
E durante o dia...
Ideal: 2 copos de água morna a cada manhã.

A Arte Perdida do Pensamento
 
Como melhorar a Inteligência Emocional e alcançar um desempenho mental ao seu máximo de acordo com o Dr. Neil Nedley, M.D.
 
Tudo-ou-nada pensadores gostam de simplificar o mundo, colocando tudo em extremos ou absolutos, como preto e branco, bom e mau, ou para cima e para baixo. Para a pessoa lutando com tudo-ou-nada de pensar, só há duas opções, "magnífico" ou "terrível". Presa em um ciclo de pensamento rígido, enganam-se fora de uma grande dose de felicidade ao não ver a grande área cinzenta em que a maioria da vida acontece.

Características comuns do tudo-ou-nada mentalidade:

- Dificuldade de aceitar nada menos do que o melhor.
- Altas expectativas irrealistas de si mesmos e outras pessoas.
- Problema em reconhecer que todos nós cometemos erros e que muitas coisas na vida são na verdade aprendidas através de uma série de pequenos erros.
- A crença de que eles ou outros deve ser um total sucesso ou um fracasso total.

All-or-nothing thinkers like to simplify the world by putting everything into extremes or absolutes like black and white, good and bad, or up and down.  To the person struggling with all-or-nothing thinking, there are only two choices, "magnificent" or "awful". Caught in a cycle of rigid thinking, they cheat themselves out of a great deal of happiness by failing to see the vast gray area in which most of life takes place. 

 
Common characteristics of the all-or-nothing  mentality: 
- Difficulty accepting anything less than the best.
- Unrealistic high expectations of themselves and other people. 
- Trouble acknowledging that we all make mistakes and that many things in life are actually learned through a series of small mistakes.
- The belief that they or others must be either a total success or a total failure.
